Google’s iOS app has been updated to version 31.0, introducing a new feature for sending feedback directly to the company.
The new functionality is specifically designed for feedback on autocomplete suggestions. According to the changelog:
“You can now give feedback on autocomplete suggestions to help us improve them. To give feedback or report a suggestion, just swipe it to the left.”
However, please note that this feature appears to work only on an iPhone, as I couldn’t get it to function on an iPad. Here’s a step-by-step look at how it operates on an iPhone.
For instance, if you are searching for “auto” and want to report the word “autopsy” because it doesn’t align with your search intent, simply swipe it to the left. A small ‘i’ icon will appear.
After tapping the icon, the app will ask if you want to report the suggestion.
Tapping on “Report This” brings you to the following screen:
On this final screen, you can specify why you are reporting the autocomplete suggestion. For the record, I did not actually report the word “autopsy”, as it is a valid suggestion.
Providing users the ability to report autocomplete suggestions directly from the search bar might be Google’s response to previous complaints regarding offensive suggestions.
This feature is another effort by Google to maintain a clean and safe search environment for everyone.
